I never understand updates of cartoon characters.. they're very rarely logical updates of the concept using newer techniques, they usually end up being the same old thing in 'modern' outfits (like wappin' wolfie, yo yogi or those awful shellsuited tom and jerrys). So if The Chipmunks came back, they'd prolly be rappers or something. But wouldn't it be fun to see something like this instead?
